New Books

So I got some new books from Amazon today. Yipee!

  1. The Infancy Gospels of James and Thomas - This is a great book. So I don’t spoil myself for my reading in the Protoevangelium of James, I’ve only spent time in the part on Thomas. I find some of the stories there pretty funny. Anyway, it’s Greek text with notes along with a translation on the facing page. This is a part of the Scholars Bible materials, a name that I have always thought was pretentious. Regardless, the book looks useful.
  2. History of Greek Literature - I’ve been chatting via email with Federico Santangelo of the U of Wales Lampeter recently since I’m considering starting classes in the spring of 2009. I asked more stuff to read to help fill in the gaps because of my lack of study in the field of classics. He recommended this book. In the introduction the author says his attempt was to write a condensed or short introductory book on the subject. Well, the book is 897 pages. Compared to the amount of Greek literature this is indeed short, but it’s not an adjective I would normally apply to a book this size! Thanks Federico. I’ve already started it.
  3. Greek Vocabulary And Idiom: For Higher Forms - Looks like it will be a useful book when I’ve had more Classical Greek under my belt. It presents vocabulary in three sections. The first covers vocab for drama, the second for prose, and the third contains various idioms.

And, BTW, I’m going to start doing links to Amazon using their referral program again. It’s a nice way for me to get a few bucks for books. So, full disclosure...

And on that note, James, if you would do something like this for Eisenbrauns (for books you sell...obviously...) I would use it :)
